For the fourth time in as many years, the Syosset High School Girls Tennis team has knocked off the Suffolk county champion, Half Hollow Hills East, to take the title of Long Island Champions. After finishing the regular season undefeated and taking out the Port Washington girls for the Nassau Championships almost a month earlier, it was a long time since the Syosset girls took the court as a team.

Michele Lehat is a sophomore from Great Neck North, playing first singles this past season for Great Neck North High School. Playing the number one spot means each match you will draw the opposing team's top player and you must be up for the task. Michele had a very respectable personal record, losing only two matches this season.

Vivian Cheng ended her high school career on a high note yesterday as she went out as the New York State Champion. Cheng who played first singles for Nassau County Champion Syosset High School defeated fellow Nassau County representative and fourth-seeded Nicholle Torres of Great Neck South in the finals.

This is the second straight season that two players from Nassau County will meet in the state singles title match as last year Hannah Camhi (Syosset) defeated Morgan Hermann (Garden City).

Garden City High School's Alexa Graham showed that age is not always a factor, as the freshman won the 2012 Nassau County Girls Individual Tennis Championships at Eisenhower Park on Sunday. In the finals, the 14-year-old took on the top-seeded Vivian Cheng of Syosset and Graham fought throughout to earn the straight-set victory.

Seeding held to form at the 2012 Girls Individual Suffolk County High School Championships which set up a final between the top two seeds in both singles and doubles. In singles, it was number one-seeded Zenat Rashidzada of Half Hollow Hills West defeating second-seeded Vanessa Scott of Half Hollow Hills East in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

The Syosset High School Girls Tennis team won their fourth straight Nassau County Championship on Wednesday, defeating the Port Washington Lady Vikings 5-2 at Wheatley High School. The win capped off an undefeated Nassau County season for Syosset.

In 2011, the Girls High School Tennis Season ended on a sour note as Syosset High School defeated Half Hollow Hills East for the Long Island Championship via a coaches forfeit by HHHE over a lineup dispute. While this was deeply concerning on many levels, it shouldn't overshadow what was one of the best seasons on-court by Long Island high school girls in recent memory.

The 4th Annual Awards Banquet, hosted by the Suffolk County Girls Tennis Coaches Association, took place recently at Villa Lombardi Restaurant in Holbrook, N.Y. More than 500 players and coaches representing 52 Suffolk County schools showed up for the event, as awards were given out to winners in various categories, including All-League players, All-Division and League Coaches of the Year.

Syosset High School's Hannah Camhi capped off an epic senior season with a hard-fought, three-set victory over fellow Long Islander Morgan Hermann of Garden City, 6-2,5-7, 6-2 in the 2011 NYSPHSAA Girls High School Tennis Championships played yesterday in Manlius, N.Y. This was just the first time since 2006 that both girls finalists were Long Islanders.
