It had been nearly 25 years since the Manhasset Indians could call themselves Nassau County Champions in Girls Varsity Tennis. That all changed in late October, as Manhasset defeated Roslyn 5-2 for the Nassau County Championship at Wheatley High School.

The Manhasset Indians came up one match short in the 2013 Nassau County Girls Tennis championship, falling to the Port Washington Vikings 4-3. This year, the girls from top-seeded Manhasset would not be denied, defeating the second-seeded Bulldogs of Roslyn 5-2 on Friday afternoon to capture the Nassau County Conference I Championship.

It was familiar territory for Taylor Cosme, as she made her return to the Nassau County girl's championship tennis finals on Sunday afternoon at Eisenhower Park. The Herricks senior had to come from behind after losing a tough first set to Alex Koniaev of Locust Valley and rally to win the next two sets to defend her title and win her second consecutive Nassau County title, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Since a 4-3 loss to Port Washington in mid-September, the Manhasset Indians have looked like one of the teams to beat in Nassau County. The Indians notched a huge 4-3 win over Roslyn last Friday to distance itself in the Conference I standings, and traveled to Oceanside on Tuesday in search of its ninth consecutive win.
