The 2013 Nassau County Girls Tennis Championships came to a close on Sunday afternoon as the third-seeded doubles team of Ally Linder & Liz Kallenberg of Port Washington defeated the top seeds from Syosset, Rhea Malhotra & Katie Cirella in the doubles final.

The 2013 Nassau County High School Girls Team Championship was decided on Friday with Port Washington and Manhasset going head to head at Wheatley High School. In a hard-fought battle by both teams, Port Washington took home the Nassau Championship by securing a 4-3 victory.

In 2012, for the fourth consecutive year, Nassau County Champion Syosset High School Girls Tennis team defeated Suffolk County Champion Half Hollow Hills East to win the Long Island Championship. This was the fifth straight Long Island title for Syosset and they are one of the favorites again this year.

For the fourth time in as many years, the Syosset High School Girls Tennis team has knocked off the Suffolk county champion, Half Hollow Hills East, to take the title of Long Island Champions. After finishing the regular season undefeated and taking out the Port Washington girls for the Nassau Championships almost a month earlier, it was a long time since the Syosset girls took the court as a team.

Michele Lehat is a sophomore from Great Neck North, playing first singles this past season for Great Neck North High School. Playing the number one spot means each match you will draw the opposing team's top player and you must be up for the task. Only five girls high school tennis matches were played Monday, Oct. 8, four in Suffolk County and one in Nassau County. In Suffolk, Eastport-South Manor remained undefeated in League VIII play with a win over Riverhead, while Bellport remained winless in League VI, losing to Comsewoque.
