The 2013 Nassau County Boys Individual Championships were scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 11, but Mother Nature changed those plans as rain caused the postponement of Day One of the tournament. On Sunday morning as Coordinator Barry Kubit squeegeed the courts of Oceanside High School and the sun finally shone through as play was able to get underway.

The Long Island High School Boys Tennis Season for 2013 is rapidly coming to an end. In Nassau County, Cold Spring Harbor remains undefeated, while in Suffolk, Half Hollow Hills East remains undefeated as well.

Bethpage State Park Tennis Directors Steve Kaplan and Keith Kambourian held their Fourth Annual Coaches Workshop at the Bethpage Park Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The event which ran from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. helped high school coaches with training tips, performance drills and insights in to how to improve their player's overall tennis games as the 2013 boys season is set to begin today on Long Island.

The 2013 boys high school season is set to begin Monday, March 11. Defending Long Island and Nassau County Champion Cold Spring Harbor returns with a strong team, but will be without 2012 State Champion Josh Levine who has now graduated and is playing at Duke University.

Michael Pavlides of Massapequa, N.Y. was named Virginia and Chuck Landis High School Coach of the Year at the 2012 USTA Eastern Section Awards Dinner. Pavlides has been coaching boys and girls tennis at Massapequa High School for 15 years, during which time, he has helped his players improve and worked hard to grow the game.

Longtime high school tennis coach Howie Arons has ended his 36-year coaching career, stepping down as coach of the Cardozo Boys Tennis Team. Through Howie's illustrious career as head coach at Cardozo, he has amassed 582 career wins against only 51 defeats, and won 18 New York City Championships.

For the fourth time in as many years, the Syosset High School Girls Tennis team has knocked off the Suffolk county champion, Half Hollow Hills East, to take the title of Long Island Champions. After finishing the regular season undefeated and taking out the Port Washington girls for the Nassau Championships almost a month earlier, it was a long time since the Syosset girls took the court as a team.

Michele Lehat is a sophomore from Great Neck North, playing first singles this past season for Great Neck North High School. Playing the number one spot means each match you will draw the opposing team's top player and you must be up for the task. Michele had a very respectable personal record, losing only two matches this season.

Garden City High School's Alexa Graham showed that age is not always a factor, as the freshman won the 2012 Nassau County Girls Individual Tennis Championships at Eisenhower Park on Sunday. In the finals, the 14-year-old took on the top-seeded Vivian Cheng of Syosset and Graham fought throughout to earn the straight-set victory.

In 2011, the Girls High School Tennis Season ended on a sour note as Syosset High School defeated Half Hollow Hills East for the Long Island Championship via a coaches forfeit by HHHE over a lineup dispute. While this was deeply concerning on many levels, it shouldn't overshadow what was one of the best seasons on-court by Long Island high school girls in recent memory.
