The USTA has announced that 2001 U.S. Open champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia and a group of Americans consisting of former U.S. Open semifinalist Robby Ginepri, teenager Ryan Harrison, reigning NCAA champion Steve Johnson, Jack Sock, who won his second consecutive USTA Boys’ 18s title on Sunday, and current world number 89th ranked player Donald Young, along with France’s Julien Benneteau, have been awarded men’s singles main draw wild card entries into the 2011 U.S. Open.

Hurricane Earl stayed away for the most part, with only a short rain delay in the early afternoon, and the full card of matches was completed on Friday, Sept. 3, Day Five of the 2010 U.S. Open. Three American men, John Isner, Sam Querrey and Ryan Harrison, took to the court on Day Five of singles action, looking for a trip to the third round. In the end, two advanced, and the other fell just short of moving on.

In the men's final at Indian Wells, big serving Croatian Ivan Ljubicic defeated Andy Roddick 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) Sunday to win the BNP Paribas Open. Ljubicic served big all match and finished with 20 aces. There were no service breaks in the two-hour final and he closed the match out with a service winner.

Yesterday was a day of upsets at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif. as top players on both the men's and women's sides of the draws were beaten. In the men's draw, second-seeded Novak Djokovic, who was the top-seed remaining after Roger Federer was defeated a day earlier, was knocked out of the tournament, losing in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to the 20th seeded Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in his fourth round match.
