Long Island Tennis Magazine and New York Tennis Magazine, the Ultimate Guides for New York and Long Island Tennis, are making final preparations for the 1st Annual New York Tennis Expo, set for Sunday, April 28, 2013 at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens, N.Y. The event will be free to attendees of all ages, and currently, there are more than 1,750 pre-registered for the Expo, and the forecast for Sunday in Queens is sunny, with zero percent chance of rain and temperatures in the low 60s.

Youth Enrichment Services (YES), a USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA), has been providing underserved youth in West Islip, Brentwood, Bay Shore and Central Islip, N.Y. with tennis lessons for over four years. The mission of YES is to provide youth and their families with a safe and healthy environment to foster a higher quality of life, and they have chosen tennis as a catalyst to accomplish that mission.

Long Island Tennis Magazine and New York Tennis Magazine have assembled an incredible slate of speakers for the First Annual New York Tennis Expo, set for Sunday, April 28 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Tennis to the Max will host a free introductory workshop on Sunday, April 7 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at Eastern Athletic Club, located at 854 East Jericho Turnpike in Dix Hills, N.Y. The event will provide a free self-assessment on your present mental skills, and will help sharpen your mental tennis skills and win more matches.

Kids ages 10 and under are invited to the free USTA Long Island Junior Team Tennis Party on Saturday, March 30 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Carefree Racquet Club, located at 1414 Jerusalem Avenue in Merrick, N.Y.

The USTA Eastern Long Island Region has announced that grant money for 2013 is available to member organizations who will support and participate in the Region’s mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis on Long Island. Additional grants are available to member through the USTA’s National Disaster Relief Program, which provides money to help rebuild facilities and replace equipment lost or damaged in Hurricane Sandy.

Melanie Rubin was named Long Island Regional Volunteer of the Year at the recent Annual USTA Eastern Section 2012 Awards Dinner in White Plains, N.Y. Rubin is the community outreach coordinator for the Long Island Regional Board, bringing 10 & Under Tennis to street fairs and community events.

Jacki Binder of Merrick, N.Y. received the USTA Eastern Section’s 2012 Press Service Award at the Section’s Annual Awards Dinner. Binder is not a tennis player but a dedicated tennis volunteer.

The Stony Brook University Seawolves Tennis Team will hold a Family FunFest on Saturday, March 23 from 6:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. to raise money to support the team and its activities. The event will take place at Eastern Athletic Blue Point and pre-registration is required. The FunFest includes a tennis clinic, court time, gift bag and light food.

We have had great turnout thus far in pre-registration, as today we hit the 500 mark. This event is FREE to the public and we encourage everyone to sign up and be part of one of the largest grassroots tennis events ever to be held in New York. This event promises to help grow tennis on Long Island and in the five boroughs and is a perfect way for families to spend a day. If you are an advocate of tennis you should be joining us on April 28th.

Long Beach Tennis Center has announced its Grand Re-Opening and Open House, Sunday, Feb. 24 from noon-5:00 p.m. The event will feature Invitational Zones, open court time, winter session enrollment, early bird summer camp information, and a Girl Scout event.
