All eyes were on the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon April 28, site of the First Annual New York Tennis Expo. As cars lined the streets and the parking lots filled up, shuttle buses escorted patrons inside the National Tennis Center as droves of people came over from the trains/subway and it looked like the U.S. Open was in town.

Long Island Tennis Magazine and New York Tennis Magazine, the Ultimate Guides for New York and Long Island Tennis, are making final preparations for the 1st Annual New York Tennis Expo, set for Sunday, April 28, 2013 at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens, N.Y. The event will be free to attendees of all ages, and currently, there are more than 1,750 pre-registered for the Expo, and the forecast for Sunday in Queens is sunny, with zero percent chance of rain and temperatures in the low 60s.

Youth Enrichment Services (YES), a USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA), has been providing underserved youth in West Islip, Brentwood, Bay Shore and Central Islip, N.Y. with tennis lessons for over four years. The mission of YES is to provide youth and their families with a safe and healthy environment to foster a higher quality of life, and they have chosen tennis as a catalyst to accomplish that mission.

The USTA Eastern Long Island Region has announced that grant money for 2013 is available to member organizations who will support and participate in the Region’s mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis on Long Island. Additional grants are available to member through the USTA’s National Disaster Relief Program, which provides money to help rebuild facilities and replace equipment lost or damaged in Hurricane Sandy.

Long Beach Tennis Center had their official grand opening on Sunday afternoon after being closed for three and a half months due damage from Hurricane Sandy. It was a special day with free tennis lessons for people of all ages, a host of vendors, and a carnival with prizes.

The Stony Brook University Seawolves Tennis Team will hold a Family FunFest on Saturday, March 23 from 6:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. to raise money to support the team and its activities.
