The sun was shining, the players flocked to the courts and New York Beach Tennis (NYBT) hit the sand running in its first tournament of the summer. No one could've asked for more, as players were treated to a day of competition and great camaraderie at the beautiful Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, N.Y., which boasts four sand courts on premises.

Long Island Tennis Magazine will be running a Summer Series of events and tournaments over the summer 2014 season. It started with the largest grassroots tennis event in the country, The Second Annual New York Tennis Expo, which had 3,374 attendees. Next up is KidsFest at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn on Sunday, June 22nd from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

The USTA Eastern Long Island Region held it's first ever College Bound Tennis Players Send Off on Wednesday night at the Knights of Columbus in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Region invited Long Island high school seniors who committed to play college tennis to along with their parents and high school coaches.

The SCTCA (Suffolk County Tennis Coaches Association) ran a very successful charity event titled “Play for Autism” at the Hamlet Golf & Country Club in Commack, N.Y. The event was a round-robin doubles tournament for all Suffolk County school tennis players, as 20 doubles teams participated and everyone had a great time!

Carefree Racquet Club in Merrick recently hosted a night to remember as players got together to honor the life of George Haber. Mr. Haber, who was the president and owner of Carefree, died last November after battling heart disease at the age of 75.

Center Moriches Varsity Tennis Coach Joe Arias spent a day at Clayton Huey Elementary School launching the first ever "Clayton Huey Tennis Academy" in conjunction with the school's physical education staff. More than 700 students from grades kindergarten through fifth attended the day-long clinic and assemblies learning various tennis skills.

High School tennis coaches from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties came out on March 23 for the Annual Coach's Clinic at Bethpage Park Tennis Center. Bethpage Park Tennis Directors Steve Kaplan and Keith Kambourian offered several tips for the coaches in attendance, with an emphasis on serving techniques and helping players improve consistency in their game.
