In Monday action at the 2011 U.S. Open, a packed house in Louis Armstrong Stadium saw top-seeded Serbian Novak Djokovic survive an epic tie-breaker and advance in straight sets to the quarterfinals after defeating the number 22 seed, Ukranian Alexandr Dolgopolov, 7-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Action at the 2011 U.S. Open will be light on Tuesday, as the Round of 16 will be further reduced and the women's singles quarterfinals will take center stage at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The first women's quarterfinals match will feature the unseeded German Angelique Kerber take on the number 26 seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Day Six of the 2011 U.S. Open featured a number of seeded players advancing to next week's Final Round of 16. Both the men's and women's top seeds advanced as Serbian Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, and on the women's side, top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark defeated Vania King of the United States, 6-2, 6-4.

The USTA has announced that consumer electronics giant Panasonic has become an official sponsor of the US Open in a new three-year agreement. Working with CBS Sports, the USTA and Panasonic will spearhead the first-ever 3D broadcasts of the tournament. CBS Sports will produce 3D versions of all the Arthur Ashe Stadium matches that it broadcasts in high definition on Labor Day Weekend and on Finals Weekend, Sept. 10-12.

Only in America …
Only in the United States of America could a poor African-American man born in New Orleans in 1901 rise to blow rhythmic sounds called jazz, entertaining stars, royalty, presidents and a Pope. Louis Armstrong’s unique style of playing earned him the nickname “Satchmo.” In the late 1970s, Satchmo moved to a small neighborhood in Queens where he eventually died, but not before leaving us a legacy of musical genius such as “What a Wonderful World” and “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” To honor his memory, America built him a stadium, right in his backyard, at the world’s richest tennis venue. In 1978, the Louis Armstrong Stadium became the main stadium at the U.S. Open, seating more than 18,000 people.
