At the 2011 U.S. Open, First Lady Michelle Obama applauded the USTA for engaging millions of children in tennis, introducing tennis into thousands of elementary schools throughout the country, and building more than 2000 right-sized courts that provide a place for young people to play tennis.

The USTA and First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign have teamed up to encourage young people across the country to get active, try tennis and lead healthy lifestyles. Components of the collaboration include a new public service announcement (PSA) to air nationwide, the construction and renovation of thousands of tennis courts across the country and the commitment to encourage 200,000 children to participate in the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

As part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s ongoing “Let’s Move” initiative to fight childhood obesity, tennis Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez and Valerie Stern, through their new company Baby Goes Pro, have been invited to help coordinate and present the “Explore the Moves Sports and Obstacle Course”, an interactive sports exhibit at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on April 5.
