I am still fired up from this year’s U.S. Open … the most physical Grand Slam tournaments I've ever been a part of since I began playing them in 1983. Before the tournament began, there was an earthquake centered in Washington, D.C. and felt on the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with no physical damage to the site of the Open.

Andy Roddick advanced in the Winston-Salem Open Tuesday night in the second round of the men's draw which leads up to the U.S. Open beginning next week. Roddick defeated Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France, 6-2, 6-4. This is just the second match for Roddick in the past six weeks after recovering from an abdominal strain.

The South Side Cyclones Girls Varsity Tennis Team from Rockville Centre, N.Y. are returning their entire starting lineup this year which is heavily laden with seniors and four-year starters. Justine Henin won her first title since coming out of retirement, defeating Samantha Stosur 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in a tough three set match Sunday in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix. World TeamTennis is donating hundreds of clothing items for children impacted by the earthquake in Haiti to K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations), a charity that focuses on the needs of children and their families. While the immediate call from relief organizations is for funds to support rescue efforts and emergency medical treatment in Haiti, a number of charities such as K.I.D.S. will also provide a “second wave” of support to displaced children and their families.
