USTA Serves, the National Charitable Foundation of the United States Tennis Association, has announced that it has granted 41 community tennis and education organizations in the U.S. more than $400,000 in grants. Combined with scholarship awards, USTA Serves distributed more than $1.5 million in 2011.

American boys have had a rough time adapting to the clay courts at the 2011 Orange Bowl, taking place at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center in Plantation, Fla. Only two Americans reached the round of 16 in the Boys 18s draw, and Americans were shut out entirely from the Boys 16s quarterfinals.

Day three of the 2011 U.S. Open saw many great matches with an early upset by a 19-year-old American player. That player was Christina McHale of nearby Englewood Cliffs, N.J., who defeated the number eight-seed Marion Bartoli of France in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

On Wednesday at the 2011 U.S. Open, 19-year-old American Christina McHalefrom New Jersey took down eight-seed Marion Bartoli from France in straight sets. Venus Williams withdrew from the tournament suddenly after being diagnosed with Sjogren's disease.

Local product Christina McHale has ousted the number eight seed, France's Marion Bartoli, today at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. McHale, from nearby Englewood Cliffs, N.J., defeated the French Open semifinalist Bartoli in straight sets, 7-6(2), 6-2, in front of a raucous and supportive crowd at the Grandstand.

On Saturday April 9, 16 boys, ages 12 and under, took the courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to compete in the Longines Future Tennis Aces event. They were all playing for the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the French Open to meet and play against tennis greats, Andre Agassi and Jim Courier at Roland Garros.

The number of program grants awarded in 2010 was 59, totaling $855,150. Combined with scholarship awards, USTA Serves distributed more than $1 million in 2010.
