A day after a first-round bye, Boys’ 18s top-seeded player Noah Rubin saw his first action at the 2013 ASICS Easter Bowl and got past future USC Trojan Robbie Bellamy, 6-4, 6-0. Rubin was off for eight weeks after suffering a broken right wrist and had his cast removed just three weeks ago and played for the first time two weeks ago, which was just one week before he played for the first time in Carson, Calif.

Brooke Austin just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to draws in Southern California tournaments. Faced with a very tough draw in the Girls 18s Division in four consecutive important ITF events in Southern California over the past two years, the 17-year-old Indianapolis resident survived three match points to upset top-seeded Jamie Loeb of Ossining, N.Y., 5-7, 7-6(7), 6-3, in the second round of the 46th annual ASICS Easter Bowl.

The weather outside was windy, cold and drizzling at times, and the16-year-old Noah came in as the underdog against 18-year-old and third-seeded Liam Brody of Great Britain.

He will now face Stefano Napolitano of Italy, the 15th seed, in the second round. Noah traveled to Roland Garros with his coach, Lawrence Kleger of Sportime, and his father/coach Eric Rubin.

The main draw will be played June 3-10 at Roland Garros in Paris; qualifying will be played May 31-June 1. Among the group is Rockville Centre, N.Y.'s Noah Rubin. On Saturday night Long Island's Noah Rubin downed the number five seed, Connor Farren of Northern California, in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to win an all-American final at the 48th Copa del Café in Costa Rica. Rubin and Farren had played in late 2011 when Rubin had beaten the 17-year-old convincingly 6-2, 6-1 in a quarterfinals match, but this match was far more competitive.

Copa Del Cafe is a Junior ITF World Tour Tournament played in Costa Rica taking place this week. The tournament is a Grade 1 event played on hard courts.
