Rafael Nadal survived his Friday match at the 2013 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, defeating Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. An eight-time defending champion at the Monte-Carlo Country Club, Nadal had only lost six sets at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament since winning the title for the first time in 2005. On Friday, however, he was tested by Dimitrov, as he dictated play for large periods of the second and third sets.

World number one Novak Djokovic survived a second-round scare at the 2013 Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, defeating Mikhail Youzhny 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Djokovic twisted his ankle a week earlier on Davis Cup duty for Serbia, and is lacking in match practice on clay, having been restricted to one hour a day in the lead-up to protect his ankle.

The USTA and U.S. Davis Cup Captain Jim Courier have announced that new top-ranked American and world number 20 Sam Querrey, number 23 John Isner, and the world’s top doubles team of Bob & Mike Bryan will represent the U.S. in the 2013 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Quarterfinal tie against Serbia, April 5-7. The tie will be played on an indoor hard court at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho.
