The 12th season of the Emirates Airline U.S. Open Series, the five-week North American summer tennis season that links seven ATP World Tour and WTA summer hard court tournaments to the U.S. Open, launches next week with the men’s BB&T Atlanta Open. Since its inception in 2004, the Emirates Airline U.S. Open Series has increased television viewership and event attendance, while generating new corporate partnerships for the sport.

New York tennis fans were treated to some of the tennis world’s top stars on the evening of March 3rd as two exhibition matches were held as part of the 7th Annual BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden. The BNP Paribas Showdown is part of the Second Annual World Tennis Day, a global celebration of tennis that included Showdown exhibition events in Hong Kong and London.

The USTA set a new Guinness World Record Sunday, with 406 enthusiastic kids ages 6-18 set the record for "Largest Tennis Lesson." Held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., the 30-minute lesson began at 9:00 a.m. with participation from several of the area’s largest tennis and education themed after school programs, including the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) and Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program (HJTEP).

The USTA has announced that USTA Player Development is expanding its training program at the National Training Center-East at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., hiring Erik Kortland as National Coach, Junior Development, to coach players in a new “Feeder Program” for boys and girls ages nine through 13.
