Australian Samantha Stosur, the number nine-seed at the 2011 U.S. Open, saved her best for last as she upset 28th-seeded American Serena Williams, 6-2, 6-3 Sunday in a surprisingly lopsided win to earn the 2011 U.S. Open Championship. The title is Stosur's first-ever Grand Slam title.

Roger Federer, a five-time U.S. Open champion, has held off the 11th-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straights sets Thursday, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. This quarterfinal match was rain delayed for one and a half hours after start time, with Federer still putting Tsonga off with a victory.

Rain yesterday at the 2011 U.S. Open again washed out action, creating some interesting scenarios for Thursday's action at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center as Day 11 action begins. All 20 players are still alive in the singles draws, particularly on the men’s side, where the four fourth-round matches will all hit the court at 11:00 a.m.

Mother Nature has been kind for eight days of the 2011 U.S. Open, but a steady rain and conditions expected to worsen as the day continues has forced the cancellation of all matches set for Tuesday, Sept. 5. With conditions forecasted to get worse throughout the day and no projected breaks in the rain, the USTA has canceled Tuesday's Day Session (Session #17), and the Tuesday Night Session (Session #18).

In Sunday action at the 2011 U.S. Open, 22-year-old American Donald Young reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time, beating 24th-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela from Argentina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. A full house at the Grandstand gave Young a standing ovation as he celebrated the victory, pumping his fist and grinning widely. Young had 46 winners to Chela’s 19.
