Robin Soderling of Sweden is set to miss the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of 2012, as he fights off mononucleosis. He has not played a match since mid-July after capturing the Bastad title. "My recovery has been longer than expected," said Soderling via Twitter.

Yesterday, the seeding ceremony took place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where the top 32 seeds were announced for this year's Wimbledon. For the most part, the men’s seeding generally followed their actual ATP ranking.

It was supposed to be an entertaining match, but thanks to the Swiss maestro Roger Federer, it became just another routine affair. Federer was able to defeat France’s Gael Monfils, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(3) in the quarterfinals of the 2011 French Open on Tuesday afternoon.

The anticipation was high at the 2011 French Open for the third round clash between the number two seed Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro, 2009 U.S. champion. With little daylight left, the match was suspended until Saturday with the score tied at a set apiece.

The ATP and WTA have released their latest world rankings. Spaniard Rafael Nadal stands atop the men's rankings, while Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki leads the women's rankings. Robin Soderling of Sweden defeated Gael Monfils of France, 6-1, 7-6 (1), to capture his first Masters 1000 title n the Paris Masters final. Soderling became the first Swede to win a Masters 1000 tournament since Thomas Enqvist did so in Cincinnati in 2000. The win will place Soderling number four in the men's rankings.

Atop the ATP rankings, Rafael Nadal of Spain, the 2010 U.S. Open winner, with a wide margin of nearly 5,000 in ranking points. On the women's side, the injured Serena Williams leads the WTA rankings, coming in with 6,995 ranking points, followed closely behind Caroline Wozniacki who trails by slightly more than 1,000 points.
