At the 2012 Easter Bowl at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif., 14-year-old Stefan Kozlov of Pembroke Pines, Fla., defeated local player Dennis Uspensky of Atlantic Beach, N.Y, 6-4, 6-3, to move into the third round of the event.

The Men's and Women's Tri-Level League finished their season with championship matches Dec. 17-18. In the women's final, Point Set, captained by Jenn Jaeger, defeated Rockville Racquet, captained by Jackie Gaines. In the men's final, Carefree's team, captained by Adam Kohlenberg, defeated Rockville Racquet, captained by Jonathan Klee.

Local tennis players are encouraged to clean their closets and remove unused and unwanted tennis clothing. For the next month, the USTA Eastern Long Island Region will be collecting new and gently-used tennis clothing to help athletes in need.

The USTA has announced the acceptance lists for the 65th Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, which begins Monday, Dec. 5 at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center in Plantation, Fla. The event will be contested on clay for the first time since 1998.

Congratulations to the Long Island teams that won at sectionals and have or will be advancing to the Nationals! The Women's 2.5 team from Carefree Racquet Club, captained by Carrie Alfano and coached by Gabe Raneses, went to the nationals in Palm Springs and placed fourth.

The 2010 Long Island Winter JTT season ended with two exciting weekends of playoffs. The 18-and-Under and 14-and-Under intermediate divisions were hosted at Robbie Wagner Tournament Training in Glen Cove on April 24 and May 2, and the 12-and-Under division was held at Eisenhower Park on April 24.

The USTA Junior Team Tennis Long Island Regional Championships were held this past weekend, April 24-25. Congratulations to the Regional 12s and 18s teams on their success and hard work.

Long Island had 256 teams with more than 3,500 players participate this past USTA season.

The following is the acceptance speech from Nancy McShea from the recent USAT/Long Island 19th Annual Awards Dinner, held at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Nancy was honored by USTA/Long Island with the Hy Zausner Lifetime Achievement Award for dedication and service to the Long Island Tennis community. The award is presented in honor of Hy Zausner, who passed away on 1992 and founded the Port Washington Tennis Academy in 1965, a facility that saw players such as John McEnroe and Vitas Gerulaitis pass through its doors. Long Island Tennis Magazine would like to congratulate Nancy and the rest of the award winners on their accomplishments, recognition and dedication to growing the sport of tennis on Long Island.
