The 2012 French Open, the year’s second Grand Slam event, will take place May 27-June 10 at the famed clay courts of Roland Garros. The event was first played in 1891 as a French national tournament on grass. The surface would be changed to red clay in 1912.

In Sunday action at the 2011 U.S. Open, 22-year-old American Donald Young reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time, beating 24th-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela from Argentina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. A full house at the Grandstand gave Young a standing ovation as he celebrated the victory, pumping his fist and grinning widely. Young had 46 winners to Chela’s 19.

If you asked me whether or not I’m surprised Serena Williams won the Rogers Cup in Toronto, my answer would be a resounding, "Not at all." Serena had been off nearly a year from tennis with a severe injury and illness, and this marked her fourth tournament back.
