The USTA has announced that registration for all 13 U.S. Open National Playoffs Sectional Qualifying Tournaments has opened Thursday, March 15. Players age 14 and older can register for singles competition and/or mixed-doubles. Registration deadlines for the 13 sectional qualifying events vary by tournament.

The USTA has announced the 14 teams that will compete in the first-ever U.S. Open National Playoffs–Mixed-Doubles Championship, Aug. 24-27, at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale in New Haven, Conn. Representing the USTA Eastern Region will be 30-year-old Bea Bielik from Valley Stream, N.Y. and her teammate, 27-year-old Darrin Cohen from Smithtown, N.Y.

Serena Williams has clinched the 2011 Olympus U.S. Open Series women’s title on Tuesday. This is the first career Olympus U.S. Open Series title for Serena, who earned 170 points by winning titles at Series events in Stanford and Toronto.

The U.S. Open will take over Times Square in New York City on Monday, June 7, to launch the first day of the 2010 U.S. Open Ticket On-Sale and celebrate the U.S. Open, which will be played in Flushing, N.Y., Monday, Aug. 30 through Sunday, Sept. 12. “US Open Takes Times Square” will run from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., on June 7.
