USTA Eastern is ushering in a new era, as the association welcomes Jenny Schnitzer as its newest executive director and chief operations officer. Schnitzer will bring her two-decade plus experience to the table in the hopes of uniting the tennis community in the Eastern Section, and giving back to the sport that has given her so much in her lifetime.

The USTA has announced three moves for the executive staff at the new USTA National Campus which is being constructed in Orlando, Fla. Kurt Kamperman will become chief executive of Community Tennis and USTA National Campus; Craig Morris has been hired as general manager of Community Tennis and Youth Tennis; and Tim Cass has been hired as general manager of the USTA National Campus.

The USTA has announced the launch of the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge. The Wild Card Challenge, in its second year, will utilize the USTA Pro Circuit to award wild cards into the 2016 Australian Open.

Top American juniors Frances Tiafoe (17, College Park, Md.) and Sofia Kenin (16, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won the USTA Boys and Girls 18s National Championships this past weekend, each earning wild cards into the main draw of the U.S. Open and headlining the annual USTA National Championships that took place last week.

The USTA has announced that they are hosting the fifth annual U.S. Open job fair. For the third consecutive year there will be two job fairs, starting with an exclusive opportunity for residents of the borough of Queens, N.Y. on Tuesday, July 7 from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. followed by a second opportunity open to the public on Wednesday, July 8 from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

The finals of the USTA Eastern sectional qualifying tournament of the U.S. Open National Playoffs came to a close on Saturday, as local players battled it out for a chance to qualify for the U.S. Open in late August.

The USTA has broken ground in Orlando, Fla. on the USTA National Campus, the New Home of American Tennis, in Lake Nona, Fla.  The model tennis facility, expected to be completed in late 2016, will house the USTA’s Community Tennis and Player Development divisions.

As the calendar made the transition from 2014 to 2015, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows played host to the USTA National Indoor Championships. The tournament featured some of the top players in the region, and consisted of five different draws, making for an exciting and action-packed series of matches throughout 2014’s final week.

The USTA National Indoor Championships continued on Tuesday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, as the tournament’s fields continued to be reduced. The Men’s Open Singles draw were the early matches of the day, as two semifinal bouts took place.

The USTA Nominating Committee has announced the nomination of Katrina M. Adams as USTA chairman of the board, CEO and president to serve a two-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2015. Adams has served on the USTA Board of Directors for 10 years and is currently completing a two-year term as first vice president.

Inwood Country Club opened up its 10 Har-Tru tennis courts to members of the Inwood community for a recent charity event, as 300 children, parents and volunteers flocked to the Country Club for the first ever Kid’s Tennis Festival, hosted by The Inwood Charities Fund Inc. with the USTA Eastern/Long Island Region.
