This year, tennis was a priority for the county and the USTA Eastern Section and the Long Island Region were there to help. In May, the unique event "Love on Long Island”—a day of free lessons for all Nassau residents was held at Eisenhower Park, with over 140 adults and juniors taking part.

The USTA has announced the field for the 2010 U.S. Open Wheelchair Competition. The event, in its fifth year, will be held Sept. 9-12 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The competition will feature 20 of the top wheelchair tennis athletes from around the globe.

Twelve-year-old Lauren Fishbein of Livingston, N.J. won the United States’ 2010 Longines Junior Tennis Challenge on Saturday, April 17 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Fishbein defeated Gaby Pollner of White Plains, N.Y. by a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match on Saturday and will represent the United States as she competes against fellow finalists from 16 countries around the world at the global event on June 3-4 at Roland Garros during the French Open.
