German standout Anna-Lena Groenefeld, a former top-15 singles player currently ranked at 19th in the world in doubles, has been selected by the NY Sportimes in the Mylan WTT Roster Draft in Indian Wells, Calif. Groenefeld, who competed for the Orange County Breakers in 2012, will be joined by her doubles partner, Kveta Peschke, formerly number one in doubles and now ranked 17th.

For the fourth time in as many years, the Syosset High School Girls Tennis team has knocked off the Suffolk county champion, Half Hollow Hills East, to take the title of Long Island Champions. After finishing the regular season undefeated and taking out the Port Washington girls for the Nassau Championships almost a month earlier, it was a long time since the Syosset girls took the court as a team.

In 2011, the Girls High School Tennis Season ended on a sour note as Syosset High School defeated Half Hollow Hills East for the Long Island Championship via a coaches forfeit by HHHE over a lineup dispute. While this was deeply concerning on many levels, it shouldn't overshadow what was one of the best seasons on-court by Long Island high school girls in recent memory.

The USTA has announced the names of six boys and eight girls who have been offered wild card entries into the 2012 U.S. Open Boys and Girls singles championships. Two additional boys main draw wild cards are pending. The U.S. Open Junior Championships will be played Sept. 2-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

The New York Sportimes took the court for their final home match of the season Wednesday night, July 25, hosting the undefeated Washington Kastles at Randall’s Island where legends John McEnroe and Martina Hingis participated in the night’s events. With close to a full crowd that came out to support the home team one last time, there was a nice energy inside the stadium.

The Boys 18 Division began play on Tuesday at the 2012 Easter Bowl, as both the number one and two seeds, Mitchell Krueger of Aledo, Texas and Noah Rubin of Rockville Centre, N.Y., respectively, scored straight-set wins at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
