Former player Rebecca Fakas has been named the interim head coach of both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Adelphi University, director of athletics Danny McCabe announced on Monday.

Fakas takes over for Joanna Haich, who had been the head coach starting in the 2016-17 season after serving in the interim role for a year. Haich resigned as head coach to pursue opportunities outside of collegiate tennis.

An assistant coach this past fall, Fakas had a decorated playing career for Adelphi, playing all four seasons and winning Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 2017-18. She will lead the men’s program through its primary playing season this spring, and lead the women’s team in its secondary competition season.

Adelphi said a search for a head coach for both programs will begin at the end of the semester.
