Barry Kubit, varsity coach for the Oceanside High School Boys Tennis Team and the Junior Varsity coach of the Oceanside Girls Tennis Team, has been named Virginia and Chuck Landis High School Coach of the Year 2011 by the USTA Eastern Section.

A fundraising Pro-Am for the USPTA was held at Sportime Kings Park Sunday night featuring some of Long Island's top professional and amateur players. Eight pros and eight amateurs teamed up for high-level doubles play in a round robin format to raise money for the USPTA's Eastern Section.

Albert Costa is stepping down as Spain’s Davis Cup captain to become the coordinator of the Spanish federation’s national teams. After three years and two Davis Cup titles, Costa will now preside over the captains of Spain’s Davis Cup, Fed Cup and Olympic teams.

The 4th Annual Awards Banquet, hosted by the Suffolk County Girls Tennis Coaches Association, took place recently at Villa Lombardi Restaurant in Holbrook, N.Y. More than 500 players and coaches representing 52 Suffolk County schools showed up for the event, as awards were given out to winners in various categories, including All-League players, All-Division and League Coaches of the Year.

On Tuesday, 2011 Nassau County Champion Syosset High School and 2011 Suffolk County Champion Half Hollow Hills East (HHHE) High School were supposed to play to determine the winner of the 2011 Long Island Championship.

With Adult, Senior and Super Senior play beginning the week of May 18, its time to start thinking about the Tri-Level League which will begin this August. The Tri-Level League format is women’s teams, as well as men’s teams, consisting of three courts of doubles. One court is made up of players with a National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) rank of 3.5, one is of players 4.0 and the third is of players rated 4.5. A team can have up to four players at each level.
