Twenty-one-year-old Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic, the 2011 Wimbledon champion, has been named WTA Player of the Year for 2011 to cap off her amazing year. Currently, Kvitova has a 60-13 record, earning six singles titles, including her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships.

Roger Federer, a five-time U.S. Open champion, has held off the 11th-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straights sets Thursday, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. This quarterfinal match was rain delayed for one and a half hours after start time, with Federer still putting Tsonga off with a victory.
