Sony Ericsson has announced that it is ending its sponsorship of the WTA Tour at the end of the 2012 season. In 2005, Sony Ericsson signed a six-year $88 million deal with the WTA as title sponsor of the WTA, which was extended through the end of 2012.

It has been speculated that a busy schedule in the first part of 2011 may have led to overexhaustion as her recovery time will force her to miss next week's Fed Cup matchup for her home country of Belgium as they face off against the Czech Republic.

New York has lost a couple of professional tournaments that were very popular in the tennis community, both on Long Island and in the Metropolitan area.
