Adelphi University named Frank Russo the new head coach of its men’s and women’s tennis teams, with the move taking effect beginning on July 17.

“I’m excited to come on and be the head coach of both the men’s and women’s teams here at Adelphi, and lead both programs in the competitive Northeast-10 Conference,” Russo told AUPanthers.com. “I’d like to thank Danny McCabe, the search committee and the entire athletic department for trusting me to be the next head coach. Both teams have a strong history in the region, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help both teams return to the NCAA tournament and beyond.”

Last year, Russo served as an assistant coach for the men’s team at St. John’s. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s team at Nicholls State, and also spent one year at Fordham.

Russo is a native of Sayville, N.Y. and graduated from Iona College in 2003 where he served as the tennis team’s captain for two years.
