The 2011 Nassau and Suffolk County Girls High School seasons are well underway and headed down the home stretch. Battling for top bragging rights in Nassau County's Conference I are Syosset and Port Washington. Both squads boast seven wins, however, Port Washington's lone loss came at the hands of Syosset, 6-1 on Sept. 21.

In Conference II-B, Wheatley stands at an impressive 8-0, followed by the 6-2 Lynbrook team, while atop Conference II-A, Plainview JFK leads the division with a 6-1 overall record.

In Conference III-A, Glen Cove leads the pack with a 5-2 mark in seven matches, followed by the undefeated Oyster Bay with a 4-0 record. Tied atop Conference III-B with identical 5-1 marks are Plainedge and Long Beach followed by the 4-1 Long Beach.

Sitting atop Conference IV-A is Bethpage with a flawless 4-0 mark, followed by the 3-1 girls team from Clarke. Valley Stream Central sits in first place in Conference IV-B with a 2-0 record, followed by the 1-0 Division Dragons from Levittown.

In Suffolk County, League I leaders Half Hollow Hills West currently holds a 9-1 record, followed closely by their cross-town rivals, Half Hollow Hills East with a 7-1 overall mark. In League II, Northport leads the division with a record of 7-1, followed by Huntington with a 5-3 mark.

In League III, West Islip currently leads the division with an 8-1 record, followed by the 5-1 squad from Islip. In League IV, West Babylon leads the pack with an 8-1 mark, followed closely by the 8-3 team from Lindenhurst.

Sitting atop League V in Suffolk is the 9-0 team from Ward Melville, followed by second place Patchogue-Medford with a 6-3 mark. In League VI, Miller Place's 7-3 record outpaces second place Port Jefferson's 6-4 mark and Sachem East's 5-4 record.

William Floyd's 8-1 record and McGann-Mercy's 8-2 overall record sits the two in second and third place respectively in League VII, behind the 7-1 Westhampton, who remains undefeated in their conference at 6-0.

Wrapping things up in Suffolk County is 9-0 Mattituck leading League VIII, ahead of 7-2 Riverhead 7-2 and the 6-3 Eastport/South Manor girls tennis squad.

There is much more tennis left to play, but in the coming weeks, the playoff picture will become a bit clearer on both the Nassau and Suffolk sides, leading to the County and Long Island Championships in late fall.
