The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Eastern Long Island Region has scheduled its 22nd Annual Awards Dinner for Wednesday, May 9 at the Crest Hollow Country Club, located at 8325 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, N.Y.
As in year's past, the region will celebrate the achievements of its tennis stars–both junior and adult–at the dinner, which this year boasts a Mexican Fiesta theme. The event begins at 5:15 p.m. with registration and photographs of award winners, cocktail hour begins at 6:00 p.m., a gala buffet at 7:00 p.m. and the annual awards ceremony at 8:00 p.m., followed by dessert.
New to the agenda this year will be awards for PPR (points per round) and NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) achievements, along with awards for the top junior, high school and adult players, as well as league captains. Ed Wolfarth of Syosset, a longtime tennis player and teaching pro, as well as a dedicated Long Island volunteer, will receive the Hy Zausner Tennis Lifetime Achievement Award, the evening’s highest honor. Nancy Gill McShea of Rockville Centre and Ron Rehbun of Westbury, both of whom are recent inductees to the Junior Tennis Foundation Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame, will receive the Vitas Gerulaitis For the Love of Tennis Award. The region will also honor D.A. Abrams, former Executive Director of USTA Eastern.
Pioneering sports radio broadcaster Ann Liguori will deliver the evening’s keynote address. Ms. Liguori was the first woman to host her own call-in sports show on the original all-sports radio station, WFAN-NY, where she continues as the station's golf and tennis reporter. Ms. Liguori will be on hand to sign copies of her book, A Passion for Golf, Celebrity Musings About the Game.
Raffle prizes and auction items will be available including: box seats for the 2012 US Open, Center Court Play at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Yankee Ticket package and much more.
To RSVP for the dinner, please send your check for $75 per person, payable to USTA Eastern Long Island, to Daniel Burgess, 141 Parsons Avenue, Freeport, N.Y. 11520 or register online at www.eastern.usta.com/LIDinner.
