Ljubicic and Jankovic Win Titles at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells

In the men’s final at Indian Wells, big serving Croatian Ivan Ljubicic defeated Andy Roddick 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) Sunday to win the BNP Paribas Open. Ljubicic served big all match and finished with 20 aces. There were no service breaks in the two-hour final and he closed the match out with a service winner.

Roddick came into the match having beaten Ljubicic seven out of 10 meetings, before this defeat. Ljubicic who came into thematch ranked 26th in the world, will now return to a top 20 ranking in Monday’s ATP Tour rankings, returning to the top 20 for the first time in more than two years.

On the women’s side, Jelena Jankovic earned a convincing victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Caroline Wozniacki, for her first title in seven months. Jankovic who is a former world number one-ranked player, who has fallen a bit over the last year will rise back into the top 10 with this championship. Indian Wells is her 12th career title.

Wozniacki, is now 0-4 lifetime against Jankovic and just couldn’t seem to find her rhythm in this match. Jankovic seemed in total control from start to finish. On the positive side for Wozniacki, with this run to the finals, the 19-year-old will reach a career-high number two after this run to the finals.
