Yesterday afternoon, the Boys Suffolk League I Individual Championships top seeded Zain Ali of Half Hollow Hills East was crowned the Suffolk League I Individual Champion as he defeated second-seeded Brandon Stone of Walt Whitman in the finals in three tough sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. After splitting the first two sets, Ali took control in the third leaving no doubt as to who the winner was on this day. Justin Park of Whitman defeated third-seeded Joe D'orazio of Smithtown East in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the consolation match for third place.

The Doubles Championship went to the top-seeded team of Jeff Cherkin & Kyle Alper of Hills East. The final was an all Hills East matchup, as Cherkin & Alper took on their teammates, the sixth-seeded Travis Leaf & Ross Reiffman. Cherkin & Alper started strong, winning the opening set 6-4 before Leaf & Ross forced a third and decisive set by winning the second set tie-breaker, 7-6(8-6). In the third set, the top seeds took control winning the set 6-2.
The consolation match saw fourth-seeded Mike Leffler & Roger Cheng defeat the second-seeded Cory Seltman & Nick Fox of Commack in straight sets, 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-4).

The Section Individual Tournament will be held at Smithtown East High School on Saturday, May 11 at 9:00 a.m. and on May 13 at 11:00 a.m. (semis, consolations and finals). The NYSPHSAA Championship will be held May 30-June 1 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
