Wantagh Pulls Out Victory Over Glen Cove in Nassau County Playoff Semis

The score was tied at three matches a piece between Conference B-III playoff semifinalists Wantagh High School and Glen Cove High School on Wednesday afternoon at Wantagh High School. It was all up to the third singles match between Wantagh’s Jeff Starr and Glen Cove’s Jerry Ho to decide the winner. The two boys engaged in a fierce battle on the court, but in the end it was Wantagh’s Starr who emerged the victor, beating Ho 6-4, 7-6(7-5).

The 4-3 victory ensures a spot for Wantagh in the Conference finals where they will face Locust Valley at Garden City High School.

Scores from Wednesday’s Wantagh-Glen Cove match include:

►First singles: Doug Notaris (Wantagh) defeated Braddock Chow (Glen Cove) 6-1, 6-0

►Second singles: Evan Kober (Wantagh) defeated Al Lizaso (Glen Cove) 6-1, 6-1

►Third singles: Jeff Starr (Wantagh) defeated Jerry Ho Z(Glen Cove) 6-4, 7-6(7-5)

►First doubles: Angad Sodhi & Michael Burrell (Glen Cove) defeated Brandon Ngai & Chase Kravetz (Wantagh) 6-1, 6-4

►Second doubles: Joe Nicolich & Mike Zapata (Glen Cove) defeated Jim Gabberty & Luke Pacchiana (Wantagh) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1

►Third doubles: Haran Baccilar & Zamir Nasary (Glen Cove) defeated over Jake Kaplan & Jon Schifman (Wantagh) 7-6, 6-1

►Fourth doubles: Kenny Rowles & Ken Mintz (Wantagh) defeated Greg McDonald & Andrew Schuck (Glen Cove) 6-1, 6-1
