The Suffolk County Tennis Coaches Association (SCTCA) recently hosted a pre-season HS Coaches workshop at Sportime Kings Park. The Workshop, organized by SCTCA President and Commack Coach Shane Helfner, was conducted by SCTCA Vice President, Center Moriches Coach and USTA Coaching Education and Development Faculty member Joe Arias, and featured gymnasium tennis, and on-courts topics.

Sportime Kings Pak's  Director of Tennis Jeff Morys introduced himself to the group offering training information and Sportime's support of high school tennis. USTA  Tennis Service Representative Bill Mecca also attended and held a discussion about USTA resources that are readily available to tennis coaches and school tennis programs.

The Workshop featured a session on the Sportime multi-court that covered activities and drills used indoors during bad weather practices, and the use of modified tennis balls and drills. The Workshop then moved to the tennis courts where the coaches learned about the USTA's "Top 10 Games Every Coach Should Know" and the application of these games in effective team practices.

The coaches then capped off the Workshop with a luncheon. Workshop resource materials were provided to all attendees.

The Workshop was funded by the SCTCA coaches fund, generated through member team dues and award dinner revenue and was available to all Suffolk County varsity and junior varsity tennis coaches. For more information about Suffolk County varsity tennis, visit www.suffolktenniscoaches.org.
