Stony Brook went on the road and defeated Comsewogue 5-2 on Monday afternoon in Suffolk League V Division III play to notch its first victory of the season. Stony Brook dominated singles play, winning all four matches, including two in straight sets.
In first singles, Nick Yu of Stony Brook dropped just three games in his 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dylan Osbrey of Comsewogue. The second singles match required a third-set tiebreak as Stony Brook's Ricky Rodriguez and Diego Saenz battled in a long, evenly played match that Rodriguez won 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.
Comsewogue's doubles teams played well, as pairs Eric Ranaldi & Tyler Weller and Matt Broome & Sean Timpanaro both won their respective matches in straight sets, but the singles play of Stony Brook proved to be enough to secure the 5-2 victory. Stony Brook improves to 1-8 overall on the season, while Comsewogue drops to 3-5.
