Oceanside Edges Massapequa After Suspended Play Resumes

Oceanside and Massapequa resumed a match yesterday that was suspended back on April 7th due to rain, with Oceanside squeezing out a 4-3 victory in Nassau County Conference II-A action. Oceanside traveled to Massapequa to complete the final four matches that were suspended nearly two weeks ago.

The match of the day came in the second singles contest between Oceanside’s Jake Chen and Massapequa’s Andrew Bentz. Chen dropped the first set 4-6 before rallying back to even the match by capturing the second set 6-4. His comeback wasn’t done, as Chen trailed 5-3 in the third set, but fought back to win the final four games, securing the match in a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 comeback victory.

The match was clinched by Oceanside in fourth doubles, as the Sailors’ Tim Cecere & Jeff Weiner won 6-4, 6-3 in a highly-contested match.

Oceanside improves to 4-3 on the season, while Massapequa drops to 3-3. Oceanside gears up for a Wednesday afternoon home match on April 23 against Wantagh at 4:45 p.m., while Massapequa looks to get over the .500 mark at home today as they play host to Lynbrook at 4:15 p.m.
