The Great Neck South Rebels were just 3-10 last season and struggled throughout the year in Nassau’s Conference II-A. What a difference a year makes.
This season, the Rebels have been as good as any team in the county, and it continued Thursday with a 7-0 rout over Garden City to bolster its match win-streak to eight.
Great Neck South hosted the Trojans in a Conference II-A showdown and faced no problems as it improved to 8-0 on the year. Angela Chi led the way, defeating Dale Poole 6-3, 6-1 at third singles. Up next for the undefeated Rebels will be cross-town rival Great Neck North, while Garden City will travel to Herricks.
Great Neck North notched a win on Thursday as well, edging Oyster Bay 4-3 for a big road victory in Conference II-A. Oyster Bay hung tough despite being without its first and fourth doubles pairs, but eventually fell short to the Blazers. The deciding match came at second doubles, with Ashley Yu & Shannon Nassi beating Julliete D’Versa & Michelle Yu 7-6(7-5), 6-3.
Great Neck North moves to 4-5 on the year ahead of its showdown with Great Neck South. Oyster Bay falls to 1-5 and will take on North Shore next.
