Jericho Edges Great Neck North in Thursday’s Conference I Action

The Jericho Jayhawks held home court and picked up a 4-3 victory over Great Neck North on Thursday afternoon in Conference I-B. Jericho was anchored by the play of its first and second doubles tandems that each picked up key victories. Mitchell Leighton & Drew Cohen came back from a set down to beat Great Neck North’s Jordan Greiff & Jared Hakmian 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 at first doubles.

Tyler Bloch & Spencer Levy followed that up with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Daniel Cohen & Alex Ahdoot at second doubles.

Jericho travels to Manhasset for its next match, while Great Neck North will visit Friends Academy.

Plainview JFK got back on the winning track with a 7-0 victory over Hewlett in Conference I-A. The Hawks were led by Evan Lander at second doubles, who battled back from a 1-5 first set deficit to beat David Zuckerman 7-6(7-2), 6-2.

Plainview goes on the road to play South Side next, while Hewlett will host Cold Spring Harbor.

The Syosset Braves kept their undefeated season rolling with a 7-0 win over Manhasset. Syosset’s Eli Grossman edged Dan Chang 7-5, 6-4 at third singles to help the Braves push past Manhasset. The victory moves Syosset to 4-0 on the season ahead of its road contest versus Roslyn. Manhasset will host Jericho next.

Also in Conference I-A, Port Washington beat Great Neck South 5-2 behind the comeback victory of Austin Egna, who beat Landon Phillips 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to help Port Washington to move to 2-1 on the season.

Port Washington will visit Wheatley next; Great Neck South travels to Cold Spring Harbor for its next contest.

Rounding out the action in Conference I on Thursday was Friends Academy who beat Garden City 5-2.
