USTA Eastern held its 2015 Junior Awards Gala at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Indoor Hospitality Pavilion during the first week of the U.S. Open to recognize the top juniors in the Eastern Section.

Alexa Noel of Summit, N.J. was honored in two divisions, as she is number two in the Girls 12s Division and number one in the Girls 14s. Noel’s most recent accomplishment included 69winning singles in the Girls’ 14s division at the USTA National Clay Court Championships.

“It feels really special and means a lot to be honored at the Junior Awards Gala, especially in two divisions because only one other person can say they achieved that this year,” Noel said. “I also feel that my hard work in practice is paying off. These rankings make me confident that I can keep doing great things in my junior tennis career.”

Each of the players honored were the top three in their age group as a result of their tournament performances throughout the past 12 months.

“The Awards Gala provides players with the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work at a young age,” said Julie Bliss Beal, senior director of competitive tennis. “Parents and kids alike find it meaningful to celebrate the players’ achievements during Day One at the U.S. Open.”

Former professional tennis player and Tennis Channel Broadcaster Justin Gimelstob was a guest speaker and talked about how growing up playing in the USTA Eastern section helped him grow. Gimelstob is a member of the Eastern Tennis Hall of Fame.

The USTA Eastern Junior Awards Gala has acknowledged exceptional players for more than 15 years.
