It was a busy weekend for tennis on Long Island as both Nassau and Suffolk County had their county championships played, but it wasn’t just high school tennis played, as three Long Island colleges captured their respective conference championships over the weekend.

The Bears of New York Insitute of Technology (NYIT) were seeking its fourth consecutive East Coast Conference (ECC) championship when it took on Queens College for the fourth straight time in the final.

The Bears fell behind early, dropping two of the first three doubles matches, but rallied to win the final four to win 5-2 and earn its fourth straight conference title. NYIT won all four of the singles matches (second and third singles went unfinished) to secure the victory.

While NYIT continued its dominance in the ECC, the Bears of Adelphi were seeking its first ever Northeast-10 conference championship when it took on Stonehill in the conference title game.

The Panthers completed its dream season, defeating the defending champions 5-2 to win the program’s first ever NE-10 title and finish the season at 15-0.

The victory was clinched when Stefani Lineva beat Bailey Paradiso of Stonehill 6-4, 6-3 at first singles.

"This feels like it was a long time coming, but it was well worth the wait," Adelphi head coach Michael Misiti told AUPanthers.com. "We have sacrificed a lot for this perfect season. This win is also dedicated to the other players who have played for me the last few years who continued to push the program forward. This has been our goal since I've started here nearly three years ago and we are all very happy that we finally reached it. It was always going to be a difficult match and we showed a lot of heart to get through."

Farmingdale State made it three conference champions from Long Island over the weekend as the Rams downed St. Joseph’s 5-1 to win the Skyline Conference championship.

The Rams took two of the three doubles matches, and its singles play did the rest of the work, culminating with Madison Schrader’s 6-4, 6-2 win at fourth singles which sealed the match.
