In a thrilling Conference III-A matchup Friday afternoon, New Hyde Park edged Valley Stream South 4-3 to notch its first victory of the season.

The Gladiators had to forfeit the first singles match which put them in a hole right from the start, but the second and third singles play picked up the slack. Garrison Shu of New Hyde Park beat Valley Stream South’s Preston Chu 6-0, 6-1 at second singles and Steven Cano knocked off Monu Baiju 7-6, 6-2 at third singles to go up two matches to one.

Valley Stream South would win first doubles, as Ammaar Anwar and Malcolm Miller beat Rej Takahashi and Visha Sharma 6-4, 7-5 as the match continued to get tighter. But New Hyde Park answered with wins at second and third doubles to secure the victory. Joshua Rajan and Minato Fukuda beat James Lee and Elroy Zia 7-5, 6-0 at second doubles and Billy Zois and Jason Giamarino won 6-4, 6-1 at third doubles.

Also notching its first win of the season on Friday was Great Neck North, who defeated Jericho 5-2. Levi Weisser led the way for the Blazers, defeating Tyler Bloch 7-6(3), 7-5 at third singles to help secure the victory.

Evan Jaslow and Jordan Bernstein led the way for Roslyn, winning at fourth doubles as a part of the Bulldogs 6-1 win over Great Neck South in Conference I. Syosset improved to 3-0 on the season, moving past Plainview JFK 6-1. The Braves’ Eli Grossman clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jared Phillips at third singles.

In Conference II-B, Oceanside got past Calhoun 4-3. The Sailors were led by its doubles play, as Matt DeGroot and Evan Davis won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at second doubles and Zach Camileri and Ryan Kane followed it up with a win at third doubles to clinch the win.

Led by its singles play, Lynbrook defeated Plainedge 5-2 in Conference III-B action. The Owls got wins from Ben Tetelman, Azam Hussain and Dean Tetelman at first, second and third singles, respectively, to anchor the victory.

In Suffolk County on Friday, Commack kept on rolling to improve to 6-0 on the year. The Cougars took on Harborfields and really displayed its depth, picking up a 7-0 victory. Andy Zhou led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles, while freshman Gabe Chan came back from a set down to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles.
