The Westhampton Beach Hurricanes won its fourth straight match on Thursday afternoon, defeating Eastport-South Manor 5-2 to improve to 7-1 on the season. Andrew Hempel notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zack Zanderzuk at third singles, while Danny Tocco won his second singles match to pace the Hurricanes.

“I think I played pretty well,” Tocco said of his performance. “I could’ve served better, but I was hitting my forehand and backhand well, and played solid overall.”

Westhampton was trying to keep pace with Suffolk VII leaders Easthampton, who is undefeated and sits atop the conference standings.

“I’m very happy with the way we played,” said Westhampton Head Coach John Czartosieski. “We are trying to win a league title this year, but Easthampton stands in our way. We only have one loss in the league and it was to them, so we are hoping to improve so we can turn it around and get a win next time we play them.”

Westhampton and East Hampton will meet next on April 20.

In Nassau County action, West Hempstead snapped a four-match losing streak on Thursday, downing New Hyde Park 6-1 in Conference III-A play. The Rams got a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 from Brian Saulon and Andrew Perlak over Rej Takahash and Visha Shorma at first doubles to lead the way.
