Oyster Bay Ends Hicksville’s Winning Streak With Close Victory

The Oyster Bay Baymen snapped the six-match winning streak of Hicksville on Wednesday afternoon, downing the Comets 4-3 in a Conference III-A showdown.

Oyster Bay was led by Jed Kaiser at third singles, as he defeated Hicksville’s John Soderlund 6-3, 7-5 to anchor the victory, the second straight for the Baymen.

The loss is only the second of the season for Hicksville, the other coming against East Meadow back on April 13. Oyster Bay has now won two straight matches and finds itself in the middle of the pack in a tight Conference III.

In Conference I, the Syosset Braves continued to roll, downing Port Washington 7-0. The clinching match came on the first doubles court, as senior Spencer Lowitt teamed with sophomore Preet Rajpal to upend Austin and Max Egna 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(7) to seal the win.

Syosset improves to 14-0 overall on the season and haven’t lost since the 2014 season.

Roslyn won for the third time in four matches, beating Jericho 5-2 in Conference I on Wednesday. Justin Lempert led the way with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Tyler Blovk at third singles, and Eric Irom and Chase Greenberg came back from a set down to beat Spencer Levy and Matthew Masheb 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at first doubles.

Also in Conference I action, Plainview moved past Great Neck South 5-2, as Jared Phillips continued his outstanding play at third singles, coming back from a set down to beat Eric Rofe 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Lynbrook won its sixth straight match with a 4-3 triumph over Long Beach in Conference III-B. It was once again the singles play that led the way for the Owls. Ben Tetelman came back from a set down to beat Adam Leavitt 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 at first singles, Azam Hussain beat Justin Weissberg 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and Matt Moreida beat Blaise Derenze 6-1, 6-2 at third singles.

Ensuring the victory was the first doubles tandem of Dardan Pulatani and Dustin Mandell who defeated Long Beach’s Jesse Scott and Adam Bahous 6-3, 6-2.
