The success of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) men’s and women’s tennis teams continued this past season, as both teams reached the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 and had players honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The ITA announced its 2015-16 Division II regional and national award winners last Thursday, and Jason Pasion, head coach of both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at NYIT, was named East Region Coach of the Year for both teams.

Pasion helped lead the men to a 21-4 record and guided them to the program’s first ever Elite 8 appearance. The women went 20-7 on the season and reached the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.

On the men’s team, senior Tomas Lieb was named the ITA’s Most Improved Player after he posted a singles record of 18-4 playing in the third and fourth singles flights, and went 18-7 in doubles play.

Lieb’s teammate, Matej Selecky, was named the Player to Watch, after winning the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Year award. He went 16-3 in singles and 18-5 in doubles in his junior campaign.

On the women’s side, Alessia Rossetti was named the ITA’s Player to Watch, after a junior season that saw her compile a 14-5 record in singles and 18-3 in doubles.
