Two former world number ones rolled into the Australian Open third round on Thursday, as Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki won their respective matches in straight sets to move on in Melbourne.

Serena took on former world number five Lucie Safarova in a rematch of the 2015 French Open final. That match went the full three sets, but Serena made sure to not let this one go the distance, playing solid tennis all night long to advance with a 6-3, 6-4 win.

“That was a great performance. I played well. She’s a former top 10 player. The last time we played together was in the finals of a Grand Slam,” said Serena. “You know, it’s not an easy match. She’s a really good player.”

Overall, Serena hit 35 winners and broke Safarova once in each set to move on in one hour and 25 minutes.

Up next for Serena is fellow American Nicole Gibbs, who defeated another American in Irina Falconi 6-4, 6-1.

The 17th seeded Wozniacki continued to display the top form she ended 2016 on, beating Croatia’s Donna Vekic 6-1, 6-3.

Wozniacki hit 21 winners to just nine unforced errors, and broke Vekic six times to cruise in just one hour and 16 minutes. She will take on ninth-seed Johanna Konta in the third-round.

Konta defeated Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-2 on Thursday.

“She plays really well. You know, big forehand, big serve. But I’m ready. I’m playing well. I’m excited for the challenge,” Wozniacki said of Konta. “She’s obviously won last week in Sydney. She had a good last year. I’m here to fight. I’m here to do my best, and try and win the match.”

Karolina Pliskova continued to look like the best player in the draw, winning in dominating fashion yet again, this time a 6-2, 6-0 drubbing over Russia’s Anna Blinkova.

“I’m feeling pretty good on the court, confident. I have some matches already that I won this year. I haven’t lost yet, which is also a good thing,” said last year’s U.S. Open finalist. “The opponents were not at that high of a level, but still, I felt pretty good out there. The third round is going to definitely be tougher than the first two.”

Pliskova takes on Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko next. Ostapenko defeated 31st seed Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 6-1 to advance on Thursday.

Croatia’s Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, who hadn’t won a main draw match at the Australian Open since 1998 before her opening round victory, continued her Melbourne run, shocking third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-2.

“I don’t feel like I’m that old,” the 35-year old said. “I’ve missed a few years on tour, but this time around I don’t have anything to prove. I’m just enjoying myself, playing for myself. I’m enjoying it, enjoying the moments and just trying to go as far as I can.”

Sixth-seed Dominika Cibulkova, who won the WTA Finals last year, advanced with a 6-4, 7-6(8) win over Su-Wei Hsieh, setting up a third round clash with 30th seeded Russian Ekaterina Makarova.

Makarova led Sara Errani 6-2, 3-2 when the Italian was forced to retire.

Former UCLA All-American Jennifer Brady came back from a set down to beat Heather Watson 2-6, 7-6(3), 10-8. The American qualifier will play 14th seed Elena Vesnina, who was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Mandy Minella.

Timea Bacsinszky, Barbora Strycova, Caroline Garcia, Daria Gavrilova and Maria Sakkari were the other women to advance on Thursday.
