The Islip boys tennis team moved back to .500 on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off Lindenhurst 7-0 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

“The boys played well today,” said Islip head coach Nick Delapi. “It was a nice match to get us prepared for a tough league match against Sayville.”

Islip was led by its top two singles players, Sean Skahan at first singles and Matt Southard at second singles, who both notched straight set victories on Wednesday.

“I played very consistent tennis today,” said Skahan, who won 6-0, 6-0 in the top singles flight. “I was able to play good offensive tennis and was hitting the ball pretty strong.”

Southard dropped just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles.

“I tried to stay aggressive and in control of the point,” Southard said. “I was able to come to the net really well and converted on my volleys.”

The Buccaneers also got solid play from its doubles teams, anchored by Kyle Sapia and Stephen Paris’ 6-1, 6-2 win at first doubles.

“We have good chemistry,” Sapia said of the success of the senior duo. “I play well at the net and he is good at the baseline, so we play well together.”

Up next for Islip is a League III showdown with Sayville, which will serve as a measuring stick for Islip’s season according to Delapi:

“The match against Sayville should go a long way in determining where we are going to finish up overall.”
