NYIT Beats Adelphi To Reach NCAA Round of 16

The New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Division II Championship’s Round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon, downing Long Island foe Adelphi 5-2 at Stonehill College.

The Bears moves on to the final rounds in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

NYIT took the early lead with wins in two of the three doubles flights, as Karolina Pondusova  and Lena Dimmer beat Rebecca Fakas and Karen Serina at first doubles, and Antonella Lopez and Rose LaCorte won 8-3 over Vanja Savic and Daniella Cattabiani.

To clinch things, Paulina Velazquez won 6-4, 6-3 over Serina at fourth singles to improve NYIT to 16-0 on the season.

The women’s team will be joined by the NYIT men’s team, who also advanced to the Round of 16 with a win over Chestnut Hill on Sunday.
