Venus Williams was found to be at fault for a fatal car crash that caused the death of a 78-year old man back on June 9 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, according to TMZ who obtained a copy of the police report.

According to the driver of the other car, the man’s wife, she was approaching an intersection westbound when Venus drove into the intersection. Venus’ car was t-boned by the other driver, who said she was unable to stop.

Venus said that as she approached the intersection, traffic build-up forced her to slow down in the middle of the intersection which is when the accident occurred. The man, Jerome Barson, was taken to a hospital, where he passed away two weeks later.

The police report says: “[Venus] is at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver].”

Venus’ attorney Malcolm Cunningham said the following in a statement:

“Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light. The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at five miles per hour when Mrs. Barson crashed into her. Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations.

This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one.”

According to TMZ, the family has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Venus.
