Great Neck South Stays Atop Nassau County Conference II-A With Win

Great Neck South got back on the winning track on Monday afternoon, beating Garden City 7-0 to improve to 5-1 in Nassau County’s Conference II-A.

After winning its first four matches to start the season, the Rebels were tripped up by Locust Valley to suffer its first defeat last week. But it responded by winning all seven flights on Monday, highlighted by Sarah Khan and Allison Liman’s 6-4, 7-5 at fourth doubles, to remain in first place in the conference.

Also in Conference II-A, Herricks edged Lynbrook 4-3 to win its second straight match.

South Side rallied back to beat Plainview JFK 4-3 behind its resilient doubles teams. Kaylee McCarthy and Emma Waite saved three match points in the second set before storming back to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 at second doubles which brought the overall team score to 3-3.

In the clinching match, Emilia Fuentes and Julia Temple wrapped up the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win to move South Side to 5-1 on the season.

Massapequa won its first match of the season, getting on the board with a 4-3 win over Mepham. The Chiefs were led by its senior captains, as Cristina DaCosta won her singles match, and Alyssa Germaine came through in doubles.

In Conference I action, Syosset got past Cold Spring Harbor 4-3 to improve to 4-2 on the season. Stephanie Wiener Alexa Brecher, a sophomore and eighth-grader, respectively, won 6-1, 6-4 over Julie Nemshin and Brianna Loeffler to clinch the Braves’ victory.

Great Neck North beat Manhasset and Port Washington beat Roslyn to both improve to 5-1 and in a first-place tie at the top of Conference I.
