Mid-Open Thoughts

Last blog, I discussed how the 32-seed format robbed everyone of an exciting first week.  I don’t think this week is any more exciting because there were less upsets last week.  I think this week will be exciting because there are a lot of Americans left.

From the matches, I have watched, the mens’ match of the tournament was Mardy Fish against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.  The womens’ match of the tournament, I guess has been Wozniacki against Kuznetsova.  I’m still waiting for the thriller.  Hasn’t happened yet.

Pretty cool that there are three Americans left in the final 12.  Also, very cool that when the rain stopped play today, there were some very intriguing scores on the board.  Also, love the schedule for day 11.  Nadal down 3-0.  Roddick up a break.  Donald hanging in albeit early, against Murray.  My predictions? Murray in 3. Rafa in 4.  Roddick in 5.  Fed in 5 against Tsonga. Zvonerva against Serena in the finals.  Rafa against Djokovic in the finals. Isner against Simon, match of the tournament.

Went to the Open the other night and watched Isner against Bogomolov.  Funniest thing happened.  Two guys got ejected for heckling Bogomolov.  As they left, they started chanting "USA! USA!" Guess the last name  threw them off because they didn’t realize that Bogomolov was American too.

The last two days have been brutal.  I feel like my US Open time has been hijacked and that all tournament momentum has been killed.

Who knew that it is so difficult to tell that it is windy on television?  I was watching the Open and the people I was watching with commented how badly the players looked.  Meanwhile, anyone at the Open knew how difficult the conditions were.
