New York Tennis Expo 2014

The First New York Tennis Expo was held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center almost one year ago and it was a amazing event, with nearly 3,000 enthusiastic attendees. Critics can talk all they want about how the participation numbers for tennis are weak because we don't have many American champions, but the numbers don't reflect the passion of those who live the sport.

"Let's all work together to grow the game."

Boy I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard that sentiment voiced.

Unfortunately, if I had a nickel for every worthwhile attempt that I have seen, I couldn't make change from a dollar.

This Expo was different. It was well-organized, highly-promoted and professionally-executed. It was also free to the public.

This was the biggest grassroots tennis event in the local area, EVER, and if that doesn't grow the game, then what does?

This year's Expo is Sunday, June 1 again at the National Tennis Center. If you are part of the local tennis industry and not part of this event, then you have missed an opportunity for enlightened self interest.

If you are a fan and you love the sport of tennis, show up and lend your support to truly grow the game.
